St Barbara Supporting Five Local Food Bank Holiday Programs
Nova Scotia (November 26, 2024) – Atlantic Mining Nova Scotia Inc. (Atlantic Mining), a subsidiary of St Barbara Limited, is pleased to announce support for over 1,000 families across Eastern Nova Scotia over the holidays. St Barbara’s contribution of $55,000 will contribute to food bank holiday programs in Guysborough, Pictou County, Musquodoboit, Sheet Harbour and Sherbrooke.
“We appreciate this generous contribution and St Barbara’s ongoing commitment to our communities” said Barb O’Hearn, Pictou County Foodbank East Board Chair. “This kind of support makes a great impact in our community, and its needed most over the holiday seasons and during winter.”
The funding can be used however is needed by each food bank. Holiday programs differ with some providing baskets and others supporting with gift cards. St Barbara wanted to make sure each food bank had what was best for their communities.
“We are committed to the local community where we work, live and raise our families,” said Andrew Strelein, Director of Atlantic Mining Nova Scotia. “Especially around the holidays, it’s important to give back and support those that are most vulnerable.”
St Barbara’s Atlantic Mining has contributed more than $1.6M to local non-profit organizations, local sports teams, environmental research, educational grants, hospitals, food banks and more. This is in addition to the hundreds of millions of dollars generated in wages, tax revenues, and contracts with Nova Scotia businesses.
