St Barbara Celebrates Nova Scotia’s Graduates of 2025
Moose River, Nova Scotia (July 2, 2025) – The team at St Barbara extends a well-deserved congratulations to Nova Scotia’s high school graduates of 2025. We proudly join families, educators, and communities in celebrating their achievements and look forward to bright futures ahead.
This year, St Barbara awarded $14,000 in bursaries to graduating students along the Eastern Shore, including Musquodoboit Rural High School (Middle Musquodoboit), Marine Drive Academy (Sheet Harbour), Northumberland Regional High School (Pictou), Guysborough Academy (Guysborough), North Nova Education Centre (New Glasgow), St. Mary’s Education Centre/Academy (Sherbrooke), in recognition of their academic achievement and community leadership. Bursaries were also awarded to First Nations students entering post-secondary education. These bursaries are part of St Barbara’s commitment to making a difference in the communities where we operate.
“Our investments in the community go beyond financial support. We want to create pathways for students to connect with the land, the workforce, and their own aspirations,” said Andrew Strelein, Director of Atlantic Mining. “We are proud to support these students as they plan their futures.”
Offering a first-hand look at modern mining operations, environmental stewardship, and career opportunities within the industry, St Barbara hosted a series of mine tours for high school students throughout the year. It is our hope that these initiatives inspire the next generation of skilled professionals and responsible environmental management.
In addition to tours, St Barbara’s Atlantic Operations team delivered presentations to high school students in Options and Opportunities (O2) programs. Presentations focused on careers in the mining industry and provided insight into operations at St Barbara.
Another learning opportunity for students this year was a design competition for high school students focused on reimagining the Touquoy lookout area, as part of ongoing reclamation of the former mine. The winning design, a thoughtful and community-oriented space, was created by a student from Musquodoboit Rural High School.
“Through initiatives like bursaries, mine tours, and learning opportunities, we appreciate the chance to open doors for young people who want to make a difference in their communities,” said Dustin O’Leary, Communications Manager, Atlantic Operations. “Supporting their growth is an investment in the future of our province.”
At St Barbara, we truly value the energy, creativity and promise that students bring to our communities. We are inspired by their eagerness to learn, and we are optimistic about the contributions they will make in the years to come. Congratulations to the class of 2025. We wish all the graduates a bright and prosperous future.
