Atlantic Mining Provides Reclamation Bond to Department of Natural Resources and Renewables

Moose River, Nova Scotia (October 3, 2024) – Atlantic Mining Nova Scotia Inc. (Atlantic Mining), a subsidiary of St Barbara Limited, is pleased to announce that it has provided the remainder of its reclamation security bond to the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables (DNNR) as of September 27, 2024. This milestone was accomplished through funding arrangements between Atlantic Mining and St Barbara.

This reclamation security  bond underscores Atlantic Mining’s commitment to sustainable and responsible mining practices. Over the summer, the Company made rapid progress with reclamation activities, aided by favourable weather conditions. Between the start of June and the end of September 2024, Atlantic Mining spent approximately $7 million on reclamation activities at Touquoy, including major civil works, rehabilitation of already available work areas and water quality modelling.

“Atlantic Mining is proud of the progress made on reclamation of the Touquoy site,” said Andrew Strelein, Atlantic Mining Managing Director. “From the beginning, we have been dedicated to our environmental responsibilities and working collaboratively with the Government of Nova Scotia to finish the job of reclaiming a project that has provided hundreds of jobs and prosperity to rural Nova Scotians. The reclamation also provides the ability to continue that legacy.”

A reclamation security bond is a bank issued financial assurance provided to the Government of Nova Scotia via DNRR to underwrite the estimated financial cost to complete reclamation activities.

Atlantic Mining is actively engaging with stakeholders to keep them informed about the progress.

If the public has any questions about the ongoing work, they’re encouraged to contact: communityrelations@stbarbara.ca. The public are also welcome to contact the Company to arrange a tour of the now closed Touquoy Gold Mine.

St Barbara is currently welcoming suggestions for land that would be purchased and protected, and has an active contests with local schools to suggest possible usage for a parcel of land at the Touquoy site.
